Topic:
How to Avoid the Target Hardening Trap
The target hardening trap is essentially an approach to physical security protection that is reactive in nature and does not consider the onsite characteristics that are contributing to a target's overall vulnerability. The speaker will describe the dangers of the target hardening trap and outline alternative approaches to physical security design, including Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and layered protection strategies, that have proven effective in deterring, detecting and delaying criminal activity as well as other undesirable site activity.
Guest speaker:
Corey Hill, CPP, PSP, CSPM
Corey has over 22 years’ experience in the private security industry having primarily worked as a Corporate Security Manager and a Security Consultant specializing in vulnerability assessments and physical security design. Corey currently works for Damar Security Systems as the Manager of Security Consulting Services.
Having served as past Chair, Education & Certification Committee Chair and Webmaster, he currently acts as the Vice-Chair for the Southwestern Ontario Chapter of ASIS International. He has also served as a past member of the Editorial Advisory Board for Canadian Security Magazine where he represented Government Security and in 2009 he was awarded the Alumnus of Distinction award which is Conestoga College's highest recognition for outstanding graduates who have achieved substantial career success. Corey has been a guest speaker on multiple topics including Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), Physical Security Design, Crisis Intervention and Managing Security Programs in Tough Economic Times.
